Law enforcement and military have access to FN's P90 "LV" models. Models designated "LV" or "laser visible" have a laser aiming device mounted within the stock of the weapon. The laser is made by Laserex Technologies out of Australia. IR and visible lasers are available. The visible model is red (635nm) with a high power setting of 10mw, making it visible in broad daylight. It runs off a CR123 3v lithium battery, and is fairly waterproof. It is activated by a pressure switch and has a low-off-high toggle switch, all of which you can see in the photos on this page.
The weapon's civvie-legal laser is also made by Laserex and is identical to the military model in every regard except for it has a max power of 5mw instead of 10mw. (OSHA requires special safety devices on lasers greater than 5mw in power). The 5mw is bright- as bright as any civilian legal laser, and it will illuminate an entire room at night, but it lacks the power for outdoor use in the full sun. It is available only through dentrinity.com, a Hong Kong based Airsoft retailer. FNH prefers that Laserex limits the sale of these lasers to the toy gun market, and not make an internal laser kit, red, green, IR, or otherwise available to any other third party. So civilians must content themselves with the 5mw Laserex Laser.
We use to instal a lot of these laser modules. We even found a way to mount the battery above the trigger pack for a sleeker, neater looking weapon. All was going well until we started getting lasers that wouldn't stand up to our simulated recoil testing. The lenses were coming off. (And not just on the toy models, this problem was being reported with the law enforcement models as well). Re-alighning and permanently attaching every laser's lens was our obvious solution to this problem, but it adds a significant amount of time to each project, and brings the price way up to $400, and that doesn't include the $230 laser. Some customer feedback: "You should be proud - I have very high standards/expectations and you’ve exceeded them. Your work quality on the laser install on my PS-90 stock is nothing short of exceptional. This does change the feel and versatility of the weapon – much cleaner than anything externally mounted. I not sure how you did it, but the beam is more focused than most of my other commercial laser sights. The button placement is very good too – a very intuitive location". -Scott C., Kansas City
